Things to do in Dakhla: our guide

Getting there, choosing your season, exploring the lagoon and the desert.

Getting to Dakhla

Dakhla's airport is about 15 minutes from the town centre. Depending on the season, there are direct flights from Casablanca, Rabat-Salé, Marrakech, Agadir and Laayoune, and from Europe to Paris-Orly, Marseille, Madrid or Gran Canaria. Routes and days change often, so check with the airlines before booking.

On arrival, the transfer to Hôtel Dakhla Sur Mer is free with your room: send your flight number on WhatsApp at +212 661 35 43 80.

When to go to Dakhla

Thanks to the ocean, Dakhla is mild all year round: warm days that are rarely stifling, cooler evenings. The wind blows for much of the year, which has made the lagoon famous among kitesurfers.

  • Autumn and winter: soft light and pleasant temperatures, perfect for escaping the European cold.
  • Spring and summer: the windiest season, popular for kitesurfing and wing foiling.
  • Moroccan long weekends and school holidays: book early, the hotel fills up quickly.

Bring a windbreaker and a light jumper for the evenings, plus sunscreen and sunglasses.

To explore during your stay

The lagoon and kitesurfing

Dakhla's long, sheltered lagoon is the image of the town. Schools and centres offer kitesurfing and wing foil lessons or simple trips on the water. Our reception can put you in touch and arrange transport.

The White Dune

A large white sand dune sloping into the turquoise waters of the lagoon. Reach it by 4x4 along the track or by boat, often combined with Dragon Island.

Dragon Island

A dragon-shaped rocky islet you can walk to at low tide or reach by boat at high tide. Check the tide times before you go.

Asma hot spring

A sulphurous hot spring (around 38 °C), a favourite for relaxing after a day of wind or driving.

PK25, Porto Rico and Imlili

PK25 beach (about 25 km from town), the wild Porto Rico beach and, further south, the Imlili sebkha, a protected Ramsar wetland dotted with saltwater pools: great day trips for lovers of wide-open spaces.

Landscape of Dakhla bay

Eating in Dakhla

Dakhla is known for its oysters and fish from the bay. On the hotel rooftop, L'Aube de la Baie serves Moroccan and seafood dishes facing the bay, as well as the buffet breakfast included in every stay.

Where to stay in Dakhla

To enjoy both the sea and the town, choose the seafront: Hôtel Dakhla Sur Mer is right in the town centre, facing the bay, with 21 rooms including bay-view rooms, a rooftop and a free airport transfer.
